ATTRACTIONS IN THE PORT OF VERACRUZ
For half a millennium, Veracruz has been the gate to Mexico. It
has been the place of ferocious battles against pirates and foreign
armies and an important symbol in the history of independent Mexico.
It is one of the country’s few real historical cities and yet
it is relaxed, a place for chat, music and dancing, where there are
many things to enjoy.
The area that the visitor should visit first is the historical center of the
city beside the port. The main square or zócalo of Veracruz is the Plaza
de la Constitución, a charming esplanade surrounded by buildings. It is
always full of life and music; the perfect place to discover the human quality
of the city. It is best visited on Thursdays or Saturday afternoons when it comes
alive with Danzón (a regional dance) and music groups.
